Australian stock market finished higher on Monday, 23 April 2018, led by positive performances from the banks while materials rose on the back of firmer commodities prices. At the close, the S&P/ASX 200 Index finished up 17.2 points, or 0.3%, to 5886, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 11.6 points, or 0.19%, at 5,976 points. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 673 to 552 and 396 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 6.35% to 11.753.
