Metal stocks edge higher
Metal stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Metal index increasing 222.28 points or 2.32% at 9790.65 at 09:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Vedanta Ltd (up 3.37%), Tata Steel Ltd (up 2.78%),Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 2.71%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (up 2.53%),JSW Steel Ltd (up 2.52%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 2.43%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 2.01%), Coal India Ltd (up 1.55%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (up 1.24%), and NMDC Ltd (up 0.79%).
At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 270.16 or 0.67% at 40851.87.
The Nifty 50 index was up 67 points or 0.56% at 12038.8.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 83.28 points or 0.63% at 13307.26.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 26.54 points or 0.57% at 4691.49.
On BSE,1047 shares were trading in green, 369 were trading in red and 62 were unchanged.
