Metal stocks edge lower
Metal stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Metal index decreasing 494.7 points or 5.58% at 8367.33 at 13:52 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Vedanta Ltd (down 10.46%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 7.26%),Tata Steel Ltd (down 6.44%),Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 5.73%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 5.2%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were JSW Steel Ltd (down 4.84%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 3.75%), NMDC Ltd (down 3.7%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 2.88%), and Coal India Ltd (down 2.24%).
At 13:52 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 1109.52 or 2.79% at 38636.14.
The Nifty 50 index was down 329.3 points or 2.83% at 11304.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 403.54 points or 2.84% at 13805.94.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 131.15 points or 2.69% at 4751.07.
On BSE,339 shares were trading in green, 1973 were trading in red and 125 were unchanged.
