Basic materials stocks edge lower

Basic materials stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Basic Materials index decreasing 100.08 points or 3.7% at 2605.61 at 13:52 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Basic Materials index, Vedanta Ltd (down 10.5%), Kiri Industries Ltd (down 8.41%),DCW Ltd (down 8.2%),KIOCL Ltd (down 7.61%),Balaji Amines Ltd (down 7.5%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 7.39%), Tata Steel Ltd (down 6.41%), Tata Steel BSL Ltd (down 6.37%), Fairchem Speciality Ltd (down 6.32%), and Shree Pushkar Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd (down 6.09%).

On the other hand, Sudarshan Chemical Industries Ltd (up 2.16%), Mukand Ltd (up 0.78%), and Zuari Global Ltd (up 0.31%) turned up.

 

At 13:52 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 1109.52 or 2.79% at 38636.14.

The Nifty 50 index was down 329.3 points or 2.83% at 11304.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 403.54 points or 2.84% at 13805.94.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 131.15 points or 2.69% at 4751.07.

On BSE,339 shares were trading in green, 1973 were trading in red and 125 were unchanged.
