To augment air navigation services in Chennai, state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Monday said that it has installed a new Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the city's airport.

According to AAI, the new ILS has been installed at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

In aviation parlance, the system provides necessary guidance to the aircraft for landing in various weather conditions like rain, low clouds and smog.

"The complete installation, alignment, testing, flight inspection and commissioning of the new ILS has been done in-house by AAI's CNS (communication, navigation and surveillance) technical experts," the state-run firm said in a statement.
