Chinese held with 27 kg sandal wood at Kolkata airport

A Chinese national was arrested from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here for smuggling sandal wood, a customs official said Sunday.

"A Chinese national who was to board a flight to Kunming in China was arrested Saturday night for trying to smuggle 27 kg sandal wood," Assistant Commissioner of Customs R.S. Meena said.

Meena said the value of the seized sandal wood may run into lakhs of rupees.

In November, gold worth nearly Rs.10 crore was seized at the Kolkata airport.
