Participating in the Finance Bill discussion in the Lok Sabha, Goyal said: "The NDA government allowed standard deduction of Rs 40,000 a year which is now hiked To Rs 50,000 per annum".

"In the last five years, the government has brought about a number of major changes in the income concessions and deductions available to all the taxpayers. In one way or the other, we have addressed every section of society," Goyal said.

Highlighting the changes, the said interest payable on housing loans has been increased to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1.5 lakh while deductions under 80C for investments made in certified savings have increased that from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh.
