Former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader, who was in jail for corruption, was sent to a hospital in Zagreb due to illness Sunday.

His lawyer said Sanader had some heart problems and was transferred from the Remetinec penitentiary to a hospital in Zagreb, Xinhua reported citing the Croatian national broadcaster HRT.

Sanader, who served as the prime minister from 2003 until 2009, has been sentenced eight-and-a-half-year in jail for corruption.
