Russian Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko has recommended that sports clubs in the country not sign Turkish players, and did not rule out the economic measures taken against Ankara also including such bans.

"I think that if anyone wants to sign a Turkish player during the upcoming transfer window in the winter break, there will not be such a possibility," Efe quoted Mutko as saying in reference to the economic sanctions imposed last Saturday against Turkey by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Among these measures, which will be determined on Monday after Moscow's approval in response to the downing of the Russian SU-24 at the Turkish-Syrian borders, Putin banned Russian business owners from hiring Turkish citizens starting from next January, unless they obtain authorisation from the government.
