Nairobi gas explosion injures five

A gas cylinder explosion inside a two-storey building left five people as injured in Kenya's capital city Saturday.

The divisional police commander, Samuel Anampiu, denied grenade attack as the cause of the blast at Mathare slums located in east of Nairobi, Xinhua reported.

"One of the victims sustained serious burn injuries and has been rushed to the hospital while three others escaped with slight injuries and are receiving treatment while one was treated and discharged," Anampiu said.

The injured were hit by flying materials after the wall exploded on the ground floor, an official said.

A probe was being conducted to ascertain the cause of explosion.
