Sevilla Football Club has announced the sacking of chief coach Eduardo Berrizo less than halfway through the season.
Berizzo joined Sevilla in the summer after spending three seasons with Celta Vigo, but had to take a rest from his position in November after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was sacked on Friday, reports Xinhua news agency.
He returned to the Sevilla bench a week ago, just 17 days after his operation, to oversee a 0-0 draw at home to Levante and was also in charge for Tuesday's 1-3 defeat away to Real Sociedad.
Sevilla have taken just one point from their last three league games, but still remain fifth in the La Liga and under Berizzo's guidance they reached the last 16 of the Champions League and are also in the last 16 of the Cup.
Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique and former Malaga and Osasuna tactician Javi Gracia are among the favourites to replace the Argentinean.
