Solskjaer appointed Cardiff City manager

Former Manchester United footballer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as Cardiff City's new manager, replacing Malky Mackay.

The 40-year-old, who watched Cardiff City's 0-2 loss to Arsenal Wednesday, met his new squad at the club's training ground Thursday and then was unveiled to the media at the stadium, reports Xinhua.

"It is a fantastic challenge. Cardiff are ready to take the next step up. I hope I can help them," said the Norwegian said.

"I've always dreamt of being a manager in the Premier League and I'm delighted to get the opportunity."

Solskjaer, who played for Manchester United from 1996 to 2007, took charge of United's reserve team for two-and-a-half years before guiding Molde to their first Norwegian league title in 100 years in 2011.
