Business Standard New Delhi
Istanbul became 'Catstanbul' - at least that's what cat lovers are claiming, after three cats broke through the security ring at the G-20 meet in the Turkish capital on Sunday. The felines had a free run on the podium before world leaders ascended it. The parade was led by two cats, strolling briskly across the stage. One of them stopped to smell a flower bed under the British and Turkish flags before moving on. A third followed. Media crews from across the world awaiting the arrival of the heads of states captured the action on camera. Istanbul has hordes of stray cats, often fed and looked after by local people. A lover of cats, Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk, who hails from the city, wrote in his novel, The Museum of Innocence: "After all, a woman who doesn't love cats is never going to be make a man happy."
