India Foundation, the organisation that first put international investment bankers in touch with Narendra Modi before the 2014 general elections, organised an event to commemorate the 1971 India-Pakistan War and the liberation of Bangladesh. The event was addressed by the President of India. Shakti Sinha, director, Nehru Memorial, said that war would always be an important part of history of the Indian subcontinent. He touched upon the significant roles played by figures such as Babu Jagjivan. V K Singh, minister of state for external affairs, said the war for the liberation of Bangladesh was the greatest war in the military history of the world. Meira Kumar, former Lok Sabha Speaker and former Congress member of Parliament considered it to be a “movement of undiluted national pride”.
