The latest Netflix reality show Indian Matchmaking has been a huge hit in India and among the top 10 in the US charts. Showcasing that social institution so unique to Asia through the experiences of a range of Indians — NRIs and desis — each of its eight episodes it is a depressing, if unwitting, revelation of the innate institutionalised sexism, racism and persistent conservativism of rich Indians, even those who live in progressive societies.
