The controversy over electronic voting machine (EVM) tampering has irked one of its manufacturers, Bharat Electronics. When asked why the state-owned aerospace and defence maker was not allowing political parties to examine the internals of EVMs, Chairman and Managing Director M V Gowtama was blunt. Given a chance, these parties would design their own EVMs, and ensure all votes were directed to them, he said. Not that he had a problem with that, he said. But if parties went ahead with their plans they should keep those machines at their homes, he advised.
