With reference to “Band-aid solution” (March 27), as stated in the editorial, “... a performance-linked recapitalisation, though sensible, is a band-aid solution at best” is very true, and any move towards that is not going to deliver the expected results. Inefficiencies are deep-rooted and the removal of many roadblocks which are obstructing the performance of the government owned banks is necessary. The much-debated bad loans problem is not a sudden development. It has been mounting over years, and went up to the present alarming level and became a threat to the very survival of public sector banks.
