Congress leaders in Bihar feel the party high command is not doing enough to stem the rot in the state unit and foil the “conspiracy” of the Janata Dal (United) to foment defection. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has not been too active in recent months; party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi hasn’t met them so far. Now, they have begun knocking on the doors of party leaders such as A K Antony, Oscar Fernandes and Ghulam Nabi Azad, requesting them to intervene and take action against potential defectors and saboteurs. Still, the feeling is that their pleas are falling on deaf ears and that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s dream of a Congress-mukt Bharat might soon become a reality.
