The number of students who availed education loan provided for minority community members in the state has risen to 12,000 this year, an increase of nearly ten per cent over the previous year, Tamil Nadu Minorities Commission (TAMCO) Chairman M Prakash said today.
The state government offered a number of welfare assistance schemes for minorities such as education loan, marriage aid, pension for widows and destitute women, he said here.
Addressing members of minority communities at the Collectorate here, he said TAMCO proposed to disperse Rs two crore as loan for needy people before March next year.

He said that last year a little over 11,000 students belonging to Christian, Muslim, Parsi and Jain communities took the assistance for their studies.
This year another 12,000 students were benefitted through TAMCO assistance,he said.
In Madurai, Muslim community members were given assistance under self-employment scheme.
