2 held with Rs 65-lakh gold biscuits along Bangla border

BSF troops today apprehended two people for allegedly trying to smuggle out about two dozen gold biscuits worth Rs 65 lakh along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal.

Officials said the incident happened at around 12 noon when a Border Security Force patrol intercepted two people along Jayantipur border outpost in North 24 Parganas district when they were allegedly trying to smuggle out a bag containing gold biscuits into the neighbouring country.

The biscuits, 22 in number, weigh 25.5kg and have an estimated market value of Rs 65 lakh. The apprehended duo were later handed over to Customs authorities, they said.
 

On the same boder, in the last two days, the border guarding force has apprehended a total of 79 Bangladeshis who were trying to illegally cross the border and sneak into India.

The arrests have been made from Tarali and Haridaspur border areas of the district, they said, adding all the apprehended people have been handed over to local police by the paramilitary force.
