22.7 percent border with Bangladesh unfenced: Rijiju

About 6.3 percent of India-Pakistan border and 22.7 percent of India-Bangladesh border comprises unfenced riverine stretches and these are being patrolled with the help of speed boats and floating border outposts, the central government said on Wednesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju told the Rajya Sabha that there were about 145.876 km of unfenced riverine stretches along the India-Pakistan border (about 6.3 percent) and about 930.076 km of such stretches along the India-Bangladesh border (about 22.7 percent) of the border.

He said riverine segment of the borders were being patrolled and dominated with the help of water crafts, speed boats, and floating Border Out Posts of the Border Security Force's (BSF) water wing.

 

Rijiju said BSF has developed its own technical solutions like LASER walls which were very useful in guarding reverine gaps.
