Two prisoners, convicted in separate murder cases, escaped from the central jail here today, police said.

Ganpath Singh (42) and Ramlal Bhoi (36), both hailing from Vidisha district, escaped this evening from the garden outside the prison, where they were taken for work, Jail Superintendent Akhilesh Tomar told PTI.

"Both of them had been sent to prison for life by courts in 2010 and since then they had been lodged in Bhopal Central Jail," he said.

The head warden Madan Mohan Sharma, who had taken the duo along with other inmates to the garden, has been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty, he said.

"We have lodged a complaint with Gandhi Nagar police station and a hunt has been launched to re-arrest them," Tomar said.
