3 hotels found stealing electricity, fined Rs 26 lakh

Owners of three city hotels have been booked for power theft and fined a total of Rs 26 lakh by the Jaipur Discom office here, police said today.

In a raid conducted by a joint team of the Electricity police station and Jaipur Discom vigilance department yesterday, electricity meters at the hotels were found tampered and without any readings, SHO Electricity police station Shalendra Singh said.

"Fine of Rs 19.61 lakh has been slapped on Dhola-Maru Resort on Bundi Road, Rs 6.91 lakh on Hotel Al-Hyaat and Rs 40,000 on Royal Firdos at Aerodram Circle area," he said.

A total of fine of Rs 26.63 lakhs has been slapped by Jaipur Discom and owners have been booked for power theft under the Electricity Act, Singh said.
 

"Raids were conducted on information provided by Rakesh Meena and Rohit Rager who were arrested last month for allegedly tampering electricity meters for handsome sums of money," the SHO said, adding the meters of these hotels had been tampered by the duo.

Jaipur Discom was given franchise to supply power and collect bills in Kota by the CESC two-months ago, he added.
