5 lakh people receive social welfare pensions in J-K

"Five lakh beneficiaries are receiving pension from Social Welfare Department under various schemes. It is an achievement," Sakina Itoo, Minister for Social Welfare said here yesterday.
She was distributing cheques worth about Rs 10 lakh among the beneficiaries under Post Matric Scholarship schemes during the awareness-cum-cheque distribution camp.
Twenty eight thousand Anganwari centres were functioning across the state, Itoo said.
She said, with the liberal funding from the central government, several welfare schemes for under privileged people were being implemented in various parts of the state.
She urged people to come forward and avail the benefits of these schemes.
The Minister said centrally sponsored schemes, like Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls commonly known as SABLA and Indira Gandhi Matrivta Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY), being implemented in select districts, have greatly helped adolescent girls to lead a dignified and healthy life.
There was a need to replicate the welfare schemes in other districts also for holistic development of girls, she said.
