77 cases of crime against children in CCIs in 4 yrs: Govt

Seventy-seven cases of abuse, sexual exploitation, ill-treatment and other forms of crime against children have been reported from Child Care Institutions across the country in the past four years, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

"The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has reported that it has registered 77 complaints/cases concerning child abuse/sexual exploitation/torture/ ill-treatment/disappearance/running away of children/lack of residential facilities and other regularities committed in Child Care Institutions including Observation and Special Homes across the country during the last three years and current year 2015-16," Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said in a written reply.

The ministry is implementing the Integrated Child Protection Scheme under which financial assistance is provided to states/UTs for setting up and maintaining various CCIs including Observation Homes, Special Homes either by themselves or through NGOs, she said.
 

Various rehabilitative and re-integration measures are provided in these CCIs including vocational training, counselling, non-formal education among others, the minister said.
