Unidentified gunmen shot dead a senior politician and two others in this northwestern Pakistani city today, hours after a bomb attack targeting an advisor of the Prime Minister killed six security personnel.
Amir Muqam, an advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, narrowly escaped an attempt on his life in Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province though six members of his security detail were killed in the roadside bomb attack.
His motorcade was targeted with an improvised explosive device that was triggered by remote control, police said.

Muqam, a senior vice president of the PML-N party that is in power at the centre, was visiting Shangla to campaign for polls to local bodies.
Hours later, Mian Mushtaq, a leader of the secular leaning Awami National Party, and two others were killed by unidentified gunmen in Peshawar.
The ANP, a staunch critic of the Taliban, ruled Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa till last year.
The Prime Minister's Office condemned the attack on Muqam.
No group claimed responsibility for both attacks though such incidents are usually blamed on the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
