An assistant engineer from the state's irrigation department was arrested today by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB, K Ramakrishna Prasad, said that Assistant Engineer A Prakash of the Chodavaram office of the irrigation department was arrested while accepting Rs 50,000 from a contractor.
The official said that the bribe was sought to clear the contractor's payment for de-silting Sreeramsagar tank and Rangraosagar tank in V Madugula section of Visakhapatnam.

Prakash's assistant, N Prasad, was also arrested during the trap which laid following a complaint, the ACB official said.
A case had been registered and further investigations were underway, he said.
