A former AIADMK councillor of Usilampatti municipality in the district allegedly attempted to commit suicide upset over not getting a ticket to contest the coming local body elections, police said today.
Balamurugan had applied for a party ticket for a councillor seat and was despondent as his name did not figure in the list, released on Thursday. He allegedly consumed poison and fell unconscious last night.
His family members rushed him to a hospital, where he is being treated, police said.
Local body elections are being held in Tamil Nadu in two phases on October 17 and 19.
