AIADMK workers protest against TNCC Chief, burn his effigies

Hundreds of AIADMK workers, led by MLAs today staged demonstrations at various places in the city and burnt effigies of TNCC Chief E V K S Elangovan, protesting his alleged remarks against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa recently.

Led by MLA Arukutti, some 400 AIADMK workers gathered at Thudiyalur and raised slogans against Elangovan and sought an apology for the remarks, police said.

They later burned his effigy.

Similar demonstrations were held at various places, including Singanallur and Ganapati, paralysing normal life and disrupting traffic for some time.

Mayor Rajkumar and some party MLAs led the demonstrations in parts of the city.
 

The action by ruling party workers came in for sharp criticism from different political parties, who also blamed police not taking action.
