Shiromani Akali Dal today castigated Congress leader Amarinder Singh for allegedly resorting to diversionary tactics to "protect" the perpetrators of reported sacrilege of Sikh holy book.
Lambasting the Congress leader for allegedly trying to vilify chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, the senior SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said Amarinder did not want the perpetrators of this ghastly act to be unmasked.
"Is this because you are afraid that such a development will lead investigators to truths which you (Amarinder) would not like disclosed?", he asked.

Yesterday, Amarinder suspected that Punjab Chief Minister may have orchestrated incidents of violence in the state in which two youths were killed to divert the attention of the people from the government's failure.
He alleged that Badal is trying to push the panthic crisis to serious propositions so that no one talks about the shattered economy, Rs 1.25 lakh crore debt, widespread unemployment, agrarian crisis and law and order problem.
Chandumajra said Amarinder seemed to be suffering from selective amnesia because he had chosen to conveniently divert the attention of people especially Sikhs whose sentiments were deeply outraged by the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
The MP said the SIT formed for the purpose of arresting the culprits had got valuable clues and the entire conspiracy would be exposed soon.
The SAD MP said, "Amarinder had forgotten the atrocities committed on the people especially women during his term as Chief Minister".
Chandumajra said it was the "culture of the Congress party to fan the fires of religious fundamentalism and vitiate the atmosphere".
He said the state government had taken a number of steps including formation of an SIT and a judicial commission to go into the entire incident of sacrilege and its aftermath.
The SAD leader said Amarinder Singh despite being an elected MP from Amritsar "never ventured into his constituency to have a firsthand knowledge about the problems being faced by the people and never cared to establish a rapport with them".
"It is also understandable that you (Amarinder) are frustrated at the turn of events because the Congress high command is not appointing you as the Punjab Pradesh Congress president", he added.
