Kashmiri Pandits, political leaders, members of civil society and security forces and citizens today gathered at Tawi Ghat here to pay tributes to the security personnel who laid down their lives in various encounters with terrorists in the Kashmir Valley.

"The memorial ceremony was organised to pay tributes to the security force personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting motherland in terror-hit Jammu and Kashmir," Chairman of All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC), an organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, Vinod Pandit said.

He also brought with him as "a symbol of sacrifice of security personnel" the soil from the encounter site in South Kashmir's Pulwama district, where two army captains were martyred.

APMCC national spokesperson King Bharati said the soil was the symbol of sacrifice of our security forces and sends message across the nation that Indians were united and shows our gratitude to the families of the martyrs.

Bharati said the soil would be taken to Amar Jawan Jyoti in Delhi and a sapling will be planted there as remembrance of the sacrifices of security forces.
