Armed persons thrash, rob village head's family in Punjab

Five unidentified armed men, including two dressed in police uniforms, robbed the house of the head of Mandhir village and decamped with cash and an SUV, police said today.

The robbers last night entered the house of Sarbjit Kaur, mother of village head, Lakhwinder Singh, and decamped with Rs 50,000 in cash, an arms licence, ATM card and their Toyota Innova SUV, they said.

They earlier also thrashed Sarbjit and her other son before searching their house, they said.

A case has been registered and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe the matter, police said.
