A local court has issued a arrest warrant against prime accused in the June 27 murder of a Dalit youth near Pallipalayam in this district.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (Namakkal) Malarmathi issued the warrant against Yuvraj who has been on the run since the murder.

Yuvraj had reportedly given an interview to a Tamil news channel yesterday, daring the police to nab him.

The body of the Dalit youth Gokularaj was found on the railway track near Pallipalayam in Namakkal district on June 27 and it had triggered protests from his family who had alleged it was a honour killing.

A love affair with a girl belonging to another caste was suspected to be the reason for his murder.

Twenty one persons have already been arrested in connection with the case.

On September 18, Tiruchengode DSP Vishnu Priya, who was investigating the case, allegedly committed suicide at her residence-cum-office complex on September 18.

Her father and one of her batchmates had levelled charges of harassment by her superiors in connection with a case related to the murder of the Gokulraj.

Police had rejected the charge, saying they recovered a 16-page 'suicide note' in which she had said it was her third suicide attempt and requested her mother not to make an issue over it.

The opposition had also made a bid to raise the issue in the assembly on September 21 and demanded a CBI probe.

The next day, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had rejected the demand and asserted that the state Crime Branch-CID would handle the probe into the case 'impartially'.
