With the TMC government facing stiff resistance over construction of a PGCIL sub-station, opposition BJP and CPI(M) today said "politics in West Bengal has come full circle" and time has come to bring in "new change" as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too is facing the ire of anti-land acquisition movement.
Banerjee had created history when, riding on anti-land acquisition movement, she had wrested power from the Left Front ending its 34-year-old rule in the state.
"It is the same TMC which had used false propaganda to mislead the people of the state. Now they themselves have resorted to forcible land acquisition. As per reports two person have died in police firing. Is this democracy? We think time has come to bring in a new change in Bengal, we all have to fight towards it," CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury claimed.
CPI(M), which was in power during the anti-land acquisition movement at Nandigram and Singur, said the "double standards" of the TMC now stand exposed.
CPI(M) state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra also lashed out at the TMC government for allegedly suppressing the rights of the farmers and warned of consequences if the government continued to "use brute force" for land acquisition.
"We salute the brave farmers of Bhangar for resisting the oppressive regime of TMC. If the TMC doesn't stop using force to acquire land, we will launch a massive movement across the state and it will reach the doors of Nabanna in the days to come," Mishra said.
The CPI(M) Politburo in a statement condemned "police repression" at Bhangar and demanded that the TMC government should stop using force against the protestors and sit for talks with people to settle the issue.
Reacting to the incident, BJP said, "Bengal politics has
come to a full circle" as Singur and Nandigram were back to haunt Trinamool Congress.
"Singur and Nandigram has returned to haunt Banerjee. She had said land acquisition should not take place forcefully. However, what we have seen in Bhangar is just the opposite," BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh told
