Several BJP MLAs today interrupted proceedings of a function attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who later accused them of "enacting drama for news camera".

The MLAs were attending the launching of second phase of Re-structured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) for Jammu division.

Led by BJP Legislative Party leader Ashok Khajuria, five BJP MLAs and another Jammu Mukhti Morcha (JMM) legislator Kumar stood up in the mid of the event and raised slogans against the CM while holding the power ministry headed by him responsible for the power crisis.

Irrigation Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Culture Minister Raman Bhalla and MoS Power Waqar Rasool Wani were also present at the event.

The sloganeering by the protesting MLAs led to a heated argument between them and senior National Conference leader Kashmira Singh, forcing Omar to intervene.

"Omar as the Power Minister and CM has been total failure on power supply and security fronts. People in Jammu are reeling under heat wave. Long unscheduled power cuts are being made," Khajuria told reporters here today.

"We were protesting over the power crises in Jammu. It is our right. Omar as power minister has done nothing at all," he said.

JMM MLA Ashwani Kumar said, "it is our right to protest before the CM to ensure redressal of the problems of power crisis because we are the representatives of our people.
