Brothers die of asphyxiation while cleaning septic tank

Two brothers died of asphyxiation today while cleaning a septic tank in their house in Dheeraj Nagar of Palla area, police said.

The incident occurred when Punarchand and Dinesh were cleaning the tank.

"The septic tank in their house is connected to sewer line and Puranchand was trying to block that pore. However, he soon started suffocating due to the gas that had built there over days and soon collapsed," said ACP Atmaram.

"Dinesh jumped in to save Puranchand but inhaled the poisonous gas himself too and collapsed," he added.

The relatives immediately informed the local residents who in turn alerted the police.
 

However, by the time the police could rescue them, they had already died of asphyxiation. Later, the fire brigade was also informed.

"The bodies were sent for postmortem and later handed over to the relatives," said Atmaram.
