A high-powered committee constituted for reviewing the cases of undertrials languishing in the jails today recommended the Chhattisgarh government not to oppose the bail petitions in 81 cases.
At its ninth meeting here, the panel reviewed 253 pending cases, its chairman and former Madhya Pradesh chief secretary Nirmala Buch told reporters.
"So far we have made such recommendation for 306 cases after reviewing 654 cases during nine meetings," Buch added.

Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand, Director General of Police A N Upadhyay, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) N K Aswal were present as the members of the committee.
The committee was formed as per the agreement between Naxalites and the state government for the release of the abducted IAS officer Alex Paul Menon in May 2012.
It is supposed to review cases of undertrials who are in jail for two years or more, including those facing charges under the Chhattisgarh Public Security Act.
