Unaccounted cash, illicit liquor and other items worth over Rs 52 lakh have been seized in Chhattisgarh since March 10 when the model code of conduct for the next month's Lok Sabha elections in the state came into force, an official said Friday.
The naxal-affected state will have a three-phase polling for its 11 parliamentary constituencies - on April 11, 18 and 23.
Flying squads, comprising personnel from excise, police and income tax departments, have been keeping a close watch on illegal consignment of liquor, cash and other items meant to influence the polls, said the official from the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) here.
Unaccounted cash, illicit liquor and other items worth Rs 52,40,554 have been seized from separate places in the state during the March 10-March 26 period, he said.
"Recovered items include cash worth Rs 26,97,100 and 2,255 litres of liquor worth around Rs 4,45,949," he said.
Besides, laptops, vehicles, pressure cookers and other items worth Rs 20,97,505, allegedly meant for distribution among voters, were also seized, he said, adding cases have been registered under relevant laws.
Flying and vigilance squads were keeping an eye to prevent illegal transportation of drugs and jewellery across the state, he added.
