CBI to file charge sheet against Abhishek Verma on August 7

CBI prosecutor A K Gaba told Special Judge Sanjeev Jain here today that their probe in the case is still going on and they will the file charge sheet on August 7.

The court also extended till August 8 the judicial custody of newly-wed Verma and his wife Anca Maria Neacsu, who were arrested on June 8.

"The accused (Verma and Anca) were first arrested in this case on June 8. The CBI submitted that the charge sheet will be filed in the case on August 7.

"The investigating officer (IO) submitted that the investigation is still going on in the case so both the accused are further remanded in judicial custody till August 8," the court said.

 

Verma and Anca has been accused of taking USD 530,000 from Rheinmetall Air Defence AG (RAD) for using his influence to stall the blacklisting proceedings initiated by the government against it after the Ordnance Factory Board scam had surfaced.

The CBI has booked them under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, for allegedly giving bribe to public servants.

If convicted, the offences carry a punishment of six months to five years in jail. (More)
