Chief Justice of India T S Thakur today called upon the law graduates to opt for the lawyer's profession instead of seeking jobs in the corporate sector.
In his convocation address at Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU) here, the Chief Justice said corporate houses may pay better, but a good lawyer can get respect and recognition with hard work and enter the judiciary, and even rise to the apex court.
In the past, law college was the last option for many as those who did not get admission in other courses opted for law, he said.
"Now situation has completely changed. The younger generation is giving first preference to law courses," the CJI noted, adding that the present 18 national law universities produce 2,000 graduates every year.
The national law universities must be upgraded into centres of excellence to provide research facilities so that students need not go abroad for studies by paying hefty fees, Thakur said.
The Chief Justice also complimented Adhara Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his support to the DSNLU.
