A Congress delegation today called on Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to seek his intervention in matters such as the alleged financial crunch faced by the three civic bodies in the city.

Jung assured the delegation, led by Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, that he will take up the issues with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the party said.

During its meeting with Jung, the delegation alleged that the Kejriwal government was spending a "huge" amount of money on its publicity campaign at a time when the three MCDs were facing "financial crunch".

"Kejriwal government is airing advertisements spending crores of rupees. A huge sum of Rs 526 crores has been earmarked for its publicity campaign. However, it does not have funds to solve financial crunch in the MCDs. As a result, development works in Delhi have come to a grinding halt," Maken said after the meeting with Jung.

In light of the "financial crunch", Maken said, the MCDs were unable to carry out developmental works and pay salaries to their employees and pensions to widows of ex-staffers.

"Jung assured the Congress delegation that he would discuss the issues raised by the delegation with the Chief Minister," Maken added.
