Gujarat Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor was suspended from the Legislative Assembly for the day today for creating a ruckus during the Budget session on the issue of the illegal liquor trade.

Thakor engaged in a heated debate with the Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja during Question Hour when the latter was replying to a question related to the seizure of liquor in Vadodara and Narmada districts.

While responding to the written question of another Congress MLA, Jashpalsinh Thakor, Jadeja said the police department is taking the necessary action to enforce the prohibition law in Gujarat, known as the dry state.

Not satisfied with the answer, Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani said the BJP government has failed to curb the liquor trade in the state.

This triggered a war of words between Dhanani and Jadeja, who warned the Opposition against giving a political twist to the issue.

When Jadeja was giving details about the action taken against police personnel for failing to curb the illegal liquor trade, Thakor rushed towards the Well alleging that the government has failed to impose the complete prohibition.

Though Dhanani tried to placate Thakor and requested him to go back to his seat, Thakor continued his verbal attack on Jadeja over the issue.

When Thakor did not budge despite repeated reminders, Speaker Rajendra Trivedi suspended him for the day.
