CPI-M Councillor V Ramamurthy, representing 42nd ward in the city corporation and 10 other party workers, including former MP, P R Natarajan, were taken into custody, when they attempted to observe fast seeking completion of road projects in the ward, police said.

They were protesting the step-motherly treatment to opposition party councillors, party sources said.

Ramamurthy claimed that the corporation was not taking up road projects in his ward and many other works, for which tenders were accepted, were also kept pending, as the ruling AIADMK functionaries did not want to take them up in opposition wards.
