Activists of Delhi BJP's youth wing staged a protest near the Congress headquarters this evening over its "support" to cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu, who got embroiled in controversy by hugging the Pakistan Army chief during his visit to Islamabad.
As the protesters marched towards the Congress headquarters, they were stopped by police and detained. Later, they were released from Tughlaq Road Police Station.
President of Delhi BJP Yuva Morcha Sunil Yadav said, "The youth of India treat Navjot Singh Siddhu as their role model but they are feeling ashamed now because of his act."
Punjab minister Sidhu visited Pakistan last week to attend the swearing-in of Imran Khan as Pakistan's prime minister. He today defended hugging the Pakistan Army chief saying that he got caught in the moment after hearing that Sikh pilgrims may get access to a shrine across the border.
The Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha held protests in all districts across the country on the instructions of its chief Poonam Mahajan.
She asked Rahul Gandhi to clarify his party's stand on the issue.
