Union Minister Harsh Vardhan today pitched for making the Centre for Marine Living Resource and Ecology at Kochi as a pivot to coordinate all spheres relating to the marine sector.
During his visit to the CMLRE institute at Kakanad,Kochi, the Union Minister for Earth Science was apprised of the activities of the institute by the senior scientists.
"CMLRE should grow as a national centre to coordinate all spheres relating to the sector and to develop the country's ecosystem-based management strategies relating to the seas," a statement from the Ministry said quoting Vardhan.

M Sudhakar, Director CMLRE, and senior scientist N Saravanane apprised him the status of the new campus and the new Fishery Oceanography Research Vessel (FORV) to replace the existing FORV Sagar Sampada and international collaborations.
This is the minister's third visit to any laboratory conducting research on marine related sectors.
