A dhaba owner and his helper were shot dead by a constable after a dispute over payment of food in Saharanpur district, police said here today.
Dhaba owner Shiv Kumar (43) and his servant Hitler (28) were shot dead by constable Kapil Malik following an argument over payment of food last night, IG, Public Grievances, A M Jain told reporters here.
The accused was arrested with .32 bore pistol, he said.
Superintendent of Police Mahendra Yadav said workers of various eateries have been protesting against the incident since this morning and many hotels have remained shut in protest.
The kin of the dhaba owner have been demanding strict action, compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a government job for a family member, he further said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
