Doctors of government hospitals in Uttarakhand abstained from work today protesting the killing of an on-duty doctor at Udham Singh Nagar district.

Dr Sunil Kumar Singh (55), a child specialist, posted at the Community Health Centre in Jaspur area of the district, was shot dead by some assailants last morning.

On the call for abstaining from work by Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS), working in all departments of government hospitals, including OPD and emergency, were hit, sources said.

PMHS state General Secretary Dr Naresh Napalchayal demanded immediate arrest of the assailants, proper monetary compensation for the victim's family and security for on-duty doctors in the state.
