E-rickshaws to be introduced

: In an effort to promote pollution free travel, Puducherry government will introduce battery operated E Rickshaws for senior citizens, women, children and the infirm.

These would provide connectivity to their homes and to commute from bus terminals and railway stations.

The e-rickshaws, to be operated by poor unemployed youth, would be run on a pilot basis and cover the Eastern zone of Mahatma Gandhi Road and within boulevard limits, a press release of the Transport Secretariat here said

The permits for these areas would soon be issued, it said.
