Eminent singer Subir Sen dead

Eminent singer Subir Sen, known for his renditions in many Hindi and Bengali films, passed away today at a private hospital following lung cancer, hospital sources said.

He was 81 and was keeping unwell for the past few months. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

From the fifties till the eighties, Sen had sung a number of hit songs. He had also sung duets with Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar.

Some of his well-known songs include 'Aa ja re nain dware' from the Dev Anand-Waheeda Rehman starrer 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja' (1961) and 'Main rangeela pyar ka raahi' in 'Chhoti Bahan'.
 

He was also known for his Bengali songs like 'Dhoronir pathey pathey', 'Monalisa tumi ki bolona' and 'Saradin tomay cheye'.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled Sen's death.

"Saddened at the passing away of legendary singer Subir Sen. He is our Banga Bibhushan. He will always be in our hearts," Banerjee tweeted.
