Engineer shot by auto-lifter after failed heist

A 25-year-old engineer, working at a multinational company, was shot here when he tried to stop an auto-lifter from stealing his motorcycle, police said today.

The incident happened at 11pm on Saturday when Prashant, a resident of Sector 37 and working at a laptop manufacturing unit, tried to stop the robber from stealing his motorcycle parked outside his house, a police official said.

Amid the scuffle that followed, the accused allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol and fired at him before fleeing the spot, the official added.

Prashant has been admitted to a hospital and is said to be stable.
